LA Battles Virus, City Cuts GAP Graffiti Funds, $40K Taken by Joe Buscaino from GAP Back in Play
Updated: Mar 2
We're in a massive crisis. The Corona Virus seeps through the city of Los Angeles causing a mess in finances that could leave the city bankrupt. And this is nothing new. Where the city of Los Angeles runs out of money to fund important services that any urban center needs on a daily basis.
Yet City Councilmember Joe Buscaino put his hands in funding for graffiti services and basically puts it in his pocket.
The Gang Alternatives Program will be directly affected by the new cuts in the Los Angeles city budget. According to the Los Angeles Times "Garcetti’s proposed spending plan for the fiscal year starting July 1 is expected to result in fewer street repairs, fewer trees trimmed and longer wait times for the city’s 311 public services hotline. Graffiti removal, neighborhood councils, gang intervention programs and various infrastructure projects are also on track to have less money in the coming fiscal year."
Now that we are in a financial mess let's take a look back at the corrupt, immoral and unethical diversion of funds from the Gang Alternatives Program to Councilmember Joe Buscaino. In 2016 and in 2018 Joe Buscaino took $20,000 from GAP and diverted those dollars to his personal Italian Heritage Month events in San Pedro.
The documents below show exactly how those funds were diverted. So the question then becomes where have other city and taxpayer funds been diverted by Joe Buscaino. How many other funds has he moved to personal pet projects that he is intimately connected to?
Here are the documents. And while GAP dollars are cut, while gang initiatives are removed because of the lack of funding, Joe Buscaino has in the past pulled dollars to fund spaghetti dinners in San Pedro.
